Meet The Team

samSam Rooney

Head of Piranha Audio Visual

After graduating I started working ‘just for the summer’ at a city centre hotel. The summer turned into 18 months and, by that time, I realised the events industry was for me. Ten years later, I still enjoy what I do and I put my all into the events that I manage.

Favourite things:
My partner Craig and my dog Albert, Sunday walks, Chinese food, and any kind of wine!

Interesting fact:
Whilst working in a local theatre and concert hall I met many famous people. Highlights include being kept at work until 4.30am by Ken Dodd, who was relaxing in his dressing room after his show and cooking ‘dinner’ in the form of a frozen pizza for Vinny Jones.

Senior Technician

I’ve been playing with wires since the age of three when my dad gave me an old kettle and a screwdriver to keep me quiet. Quite a few years and rather a lot of grey hairs later the passion is still there!

Favourite things:
Cooking puddings and Indian food, especially if shared with my wife and two daughters (even my 9 month old enjoys a korma and some naan bread!), and doing a ‘sweet’ mix for a band.

Interesting fact:
I have a Blue Peter badge

Event Executive

I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for 16 years and always feel a buzz when everything goes well. It’s just a shame I’m not so organised in my home life.

Favourite things:
My husband’s food – he’s a head chef! Saying that, I don’t think you can beat a good night in with a romantic comedy, a glass of wine and a Chinese takeaway – but don’t tell the hubby!

Interesting fact:
I once refused a table to Right Said Fred because we were fully booked. I’ve served breakfast to numerous celebrities, including Blue. My best career moment was when Paul Weller gave me a bottle of champagne.

MattMatt Boulton

Technician

I have been involved in the events industry for the last 9 years. I really enjoy working with our customers and making their concepts a reality – whether this be for a conference or a production. I enjoy sound engineering and video editing, so come to me with a music video idea and you’ll find one very happy technician.

Favourite things:
My favourite things are mainly food based, so Dominos Pizza, Pot Noodle (any flavour but beef), and Burger King – it’s not a healthy list. In addition to the food thing, I’m very much a film geek!

Interesting fact:
I lived the dream for a while. Living and studying film production in Los Angeles, I had (very) brief encounters with Harrison Ford, Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears.

Administrator

15 years ago, I returned to work for a small AV team after being a stay-at-home mum. I find every day a new and exciting challenge – a bit like home – making sure we have stock and that it arrives in time, chasing to get ready for an event, and tidying up by completing the paperwork and, most of all, finding missing items.

Favourite things:
Going on holiday, especially cruises, eating out, and running around after my husband and two daughters (both at university now).

Interesting fact:
My hubby proposed on top of the Empire State Building in New York, and my ambition is to go to Alaska or sail down the Amazon.

loisLois Henney

Event Co-ordinator

When I left University I knew that I wanted a job that would be challenging but fun, something that would allow me to meet new people and turn ideas into a reality. Although it’s hard work at times, seeing the end result of an event in action makes it all worthwhile.

Favourite things:
Shopping, handbags & holidays

Interesting fact:
I won a goldfish at the fair when I was 8 and he’s now the grand old age of 17.
